Since the pandemic many of us have made the switch over to video meetings and interviews. While there are certain comforts to working from home, ie: cute fuzzy slippers, there’s still that put-together look on the top half that we have to show while we are live streaming.

Below are some tips and outfit suggestions for a comfortable and chic ensemble while you’re at home. One tip is to try using the Virtual Backgrounds option on Zoom to show a clean background or office setting that’s professional. You can find many free image options to upload on websites like Unsplash or Pexels.

Keep It Comfortable

No one expects you to wear jeans or trousers at home but just in case you need to get up during a meeting, you don’t need your strawberry print PJ bottoms showing. Stay comfortable but opt for neutral comfort for those just-in-case moments. Joggers, Leggings, Shorts, or Flowy Skirts are perfect for looking pulled together in a pinch. I’m loving these Uniqlo Ultra Stretch Legging Pants in Beige and Black.

Collars and Buttons

An EASY way to look polished quickly is with a button-up shirt. You can keep the material loose like this Gap Linen Boyfriend Shirt, for easy movement without compromising on style. Navy also is seen as a professional color if you’re looking for options for video interviews.

Mocknecks & Turtlenecks

One of my favorite looks, especially during the colder months, is a mockneck. I like not feeling constrained and the lower neckline is comfortable enough for all day wear. The Isla Oversized Mock-Neck Sweater from Modern Citizen looks super comfortable and polished.

Wrap & Shirt Dresses

I love an all-in-one outfit. A wrap dress or shirt dress is perfect for this type of look because you just throw it on and you’re done. Easy, comfortable, and you can adjust the waist belt for a more relaxed fit in chair. This Club Monaco Curved Hem Shirtdress is just classic.

Vests

Elevate a casual shirt with a vest. Not quite a coat but this third piece adds visual interest and some contrast to what you are wearing and what people are seeing on the other side of the camera. This Banana Republic Long Vest is flattering and gives you extra pockets (Because who doesn’t like pockets?)

Last Tips for Grooming

With all fashion, a look is as good as it’s base. Make sure that your hair is neat, your skin is fresh (hydration is key!), and check your teeth after every meal just in case you need to floss. Some chic hairstyles would be a bun, high ponytail, or tucked behind the ears to see your fabulous face.

I usually rely on a daily skincare regiment but if you’d like to add a little color to your face, red lipstick is always a favorite if you’re feeling confident and mascara helps to open the eyes so you look more lively.

The last point I’d like to make is to pay attention to lighting. If you do not get good window light near your desk, try getting a ring light. Light is the key to not looking like you have dark circles or blending in with your background. I hope you enjoy these tips and they help you navigate working from home!
